By: E&P Staff This weekend, a Savannah (Ga.) Morning News carrier was robbed at gunpoint while on the job.
William Giles, who has declined to comment, was delivering newspapers into a Morning News box around 6 a.m. Saturday morning when he felt a gun in his side, said Tammy Blackmon, the paper's single-copy manager.
According to a Savannah Metropolitan Police report, when he turned, he was confronted by two black men. They ordered Giles into the back of his 2005 Kia Sorento, but he refused. He explained that the backseat was filled with bundles of newspapers and that he could not fit.
Upon hearing this, the men threatened to kill him if he did not follow their orders. Giles replied, "You might as well shoot me then," according to the report.
The suspects then stole Giles' car along with all his newspapers but left the deliveryman uninjured. Police have since found the vehicle and returned it to Giles. However, as of Monday night, no arrests had been made.
