By: E&P Staff E.W. Scripps' Treasure Coast Newspaper group of Stuart, Fla., will replace an aging Harris system with Saxotech's enterprise content management system starting in the fall. The group will use Saxotech's Mediaware Center platform to handle production workflow for its print and online operations at its four daily papers.
Saxotech will provide the papers with a single end-to-end CMS for the ?planning, budget management, writing, editing, workflow automation, and asset management of all content for all channels, explains Saxotech?s VP of Marketing Paul Harris. Saxotech will be used for paginating all print products, although the group will continue to use an open source system for its web presentation.
The Stuart News, The Press Journal in Vero Beach, Port St. Lucie News, and The (Fort Pierce) Tribune, will produce content for print and electronic editions on a common system, with a secondary site for disaster recovery. The system will manage all content coming in from a ?Yes Desk,? which the group has developed to receive and process reader content. The paper will also use the system?s advanced zoning features to deliver a higher quality print product in terms of pertinent content and advertising, Harris says.
According to the group?s director of Information and Technology, the switch to Saxotech addresses several issues at Treasure Coast. ?First, with a declining workforce we needed a system that would enable the news department to be more efficient. Second, from an I.T. point of view, we need to reduce the amount of desktop support. ... Finally, through the years we have seen our news department begin handling a variety of content from numerous channels and market segments. The Mediaware Center will greatly assist in streamlining communication and collaboration.?
Other Scripps sites that have recently moved to Saxotech?s Mediaware Center include The Ventura (Calif.) County Star, the Abilene (Texas) Reporter-News, The Caller-Times of Corpus Christi, Texas, The
Evansville (Ind.) Courier & Press, The Sun of Bremerton, Wash., and the Times Record of Wichita Falls, Texas.
