The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP) has named Mark Zonca as news director for WPTV, the Scripps-owned NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, effective Oct. 6. Zonca currently serves as assistant news director at WFTS, the Scripps-owned ABC affiliate in Tampa.

“Mark will be integral to our focus of listening to our communities and the news team, leading through empathy and delivering the news that matters most to our community,” said Bill Siegel, vice president and general manager of WPTV. “His experience managing large teams, deep knowledge of Florida news coverage including hurricane response, and collaborative leadership approach make him the perfect fit for WPTV.”

Zonca brings more than five years of experience overseeing day-to-day execution of Scripps Content Strategy at WFTS, where he led editorial meetings, managed investigative teams and special projects, and coached newsroom journalists. He also collaborated with news managers and Scripps' creative team to successfully execute a complete station rebrand.

Prior to WFTS, Zonca held leadership positions at Chicago television stations including morning executive producer at WFLD and managing editor at WGN. He also served in strategic communications roles at Illinois Institute of Technology and Benedictine University.

Zonca holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Central Michigan University.
