SCS Releases Layout-8000 Version 11

Posted
By: E&P Staff Software Consulting Services LLC in Nazareth, Pa., has released Version 11 of its widely used Layout-8000 display ad dummying system.

The upgrade already is installed at a dozen sites, including The Daily Courier in Houma, La., and The Times-News in Kingsport, Tenn., and has been purchased by others, including The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla., and The Citizen in Prince George, B.C. Twenty newspapers worldwide are now produced with Layout-8000 Version 11, and further installations are scheduled in late 2008 and early 2009.

The new release has an enhanced user interface, redesigned Interactive Layout Program, and the complementary AdBoss Suite -- new tools to increase the sale of color ads, premium ad positions, and use of standby or remnant ads. Newspapers that prefer point-and-click ad dummying can use the new version's ad list to sort, filter, and query to find the right ad for the right position.

AdBoss consists of ColorAdBoss, ReserveAdBoss, and StandbyAdBoss. ColorAdBoss enables planning and selling color space in advance of dummying by computing press impositions and reporting color availability. ReserveAdBoss enables ad departments to sell and track guaranteed premium ad positions, and it supports Web access that allows advertisers to know about and bid for premium space. StandbyAdBoss provides an integrated, sortable list of all possible standby ads to fill available space.
