S.D. Newspaper Sued For Libel

By: The Sioux Falls Argus Leader is being sued for allegedly libeling a local economic development official.

At issue is a July 15th column written by Executive Editor Randell Beck.

It included a satirical letter of apology from Sioux Falls Development Foundation President Dan Scott.

The column was about a speech Scott made in Sioux Falls.

Scott alleges in the lawsuit that readers believed the newspaper had published an actual letter of apology.

Beck declined immediate comment.

Scott is represented by Janklow Trial Lawyers the firm of former South Dakota Governor and former Congressman Bill Janklow.

The lawsuit demands $1 million in damages.
