By: E&P Staff A recent reader survey led the Yankton (S.D.) Press & Dakotan to drop "Dilbert" -- a strip that's rarely canceled by newspapers.
The newspaper expressed surprise that many P&D readers had negative feelings about Scott Adams' United Media comic, noting that it "happens to be quite popular nationally.... [But] it was something we couldn't ignore.... If there is a huge outcry over the move, we will consider bringing it back."
Also, the paper decided to add a story strip -- and chose "Dick Tracy" by Dick Locher of Tribune Media Services. The P&D had previously run the Chester Gould-created comic for nearly 40 years until the early 1980s.
In addition, the P&D today added "Baby Blues" and "Mother Goose & Grimm." Those King Features Syndicate strips are by Jerry Scott/Rick Kirkman and Mike Peters, respectively.
And the paper dropped "Rubes" by Leigh Rubin of Creators Syndicate and replaced it with "Bizarro" by Dan Piraro of King.
