SEATTLE TIMES PHOTOGRAPHER WINS $1 MILLION

Steve Ringman, photographer for The Seattle Times, was awarded $1 million in a photo
contest sponsored by PhotoPoint.com, a photo-sharing site based in San Francisco.

The winning black-and-white photograph, taken in 1983, shows schoolgirls on a stormy
day in San Francisco's mission district. The photo was taken when Ringman worked for
the San Francisco Chroncle, which owns the rights to the photo and will receive 10%
of his winnings. The paper says the money will be contributed to a charity for the
homeless.

Ringman previously won awards from the National Press Photographers Association.
