Seven Promoted at Port Huron 'Times Herald,' Including Regional Copy Desk Heads

By: E&P Staff The Times Herald in Port Huron, Mich., has named Daren Tomhave executive news editor and Mandy Burton news editor. The two will lead a regional copy desk that will be responsible for preparing pages of the Times Herald and its Gannett Co. sibling Battle Creek Enquirer.

Tomhave joined the Times Herald in 2002 as a sports reporter and copy editor, leaving in 2006 to join the copy desk at The Arizona Republic in Phoenix and returning in 2007 as assistant news editor. He was named news editor last January.

Burton joined the paper in September 2008 as a copy editor and page designer. She was a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund copy editing intern on the news and business desk of the San Francisco Chronicle before joining the Times Herald.

Michael Stechschulte, a copy editor and designer since January, has been promoted to assistant news editor on the regional copy desk.A 2009 graduate of University of Michigan-Flint, Stechschulte was a Dow Jones intern at the St. Paul Pioneer Press in Minnesota and was editor-in-chief of his college newspaper, The Michigan Times.

Paul Costanzo has been promoted to senior sports reporter, and Liz Shepard has been promoted to senior news reporter. Costanzo, a 2004 graduate of Central Michigan University, came to the Times Herald in 2006 after two years as sports editor at the Hillsdale Daily News, while Shepard, a 2006 graduate of Albion College, joined the Times Herald's reporting staff in 2008 after working as a reporter at the Argus-Press in Owosso.

On the advertising side, Pamela Ford has been named senior advertising sales manager. A graduate of Ohio University, Ford joined the ad staff in 2006 as sales supervisor. Before that, she worked in advertising at the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star and the Press Citizen in Iowa City.

Meagan Hustek, who has been with the Times Herald since April 1999, has been promoted to advertising supervisor. She previously worked as an advertising sales executive and in the advertising operations department.
