Posted
By: E&P Staff The union representing The San Francisco Chronicle's press mechanics approved a contract yesterday that is effective through Aug. 31, 2009. The machinists had been working under an extension to a contract that expired more than a year ago.

According to the Chronicle, the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers District Lodge agreed to a provision that ends the contract if management provides 60 days' notice that it will close the paper's pressroom. The Chronicle has been considering outsourcing the job to a commercial printer.
