By: E&P Staff A new Examiner Weekend will launch on Aug. 6, replacing the existing San Francisco Independent, the newspaper announced Thursday. This will add 100,000 home-delivered copies, the paper said, and represents a major expansion of the current Monday-Friday free tabloid Examiner.
To the south on the Peninsula, The Independent will become the co-branded Examiner/Independent on Tuesday and Saturday.
"This is a logical and exciting extension of our strategy to be the No. 1 local paper for both readers and advertisers," said Publisher Scott McKibben in a statement. "For our readers, this weekend expansion in San Francisco will provide them with all the great content of the daily Examiner, as well as several new weekend features. For our advertisers, this is a smart and cost-effective way to reach households in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties."
