Shaw Newspapers Buys Lakeland Media

By: E&P Staff Shaw Newspapers has purchased Lakeland Media, publisher of 12 weekly newspapers in Lake County, Ill. Terms of the transaction, brokered by Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close on Dec. 1.

Marshall R. Schroeder and his son William founded Lakeland Media more than 40 years ago. Robert Schroeder, executive vice president of Lakeland Media and the grandson and son of the founders, will remain as general manager.

Shaw Newspapers is a privately held company that publishes more than 25 daily and weekly newspapers across northern Illinois and central Iowa. The Shaw family founded the company 154 years ago. It is the third oldest continuously owned and managed newspaper company in the country.
