'Shelby Star' Launches Mobile Online Newsroom

By: E&P Staff The Star Car, a first-of-its kind mobile online newsroom, has hit the streets of Shelby, North Carolina.

Reporters and photographers will be able to connect with The Star Car?s mobile phone repeater station and hook up with wireless laptops, cameras and smart phones. This will enable reporters to send reports from the scene of a news event directly to The Star?s web site, which will speed up the reporting coverage.

The car is a rolling WiFi hotspot for reporters, outfitted with the latest technology. The project is a joint effort of The Shelby Star, IFRA and the University of South Carolina?s Newsplex.

The Star Car will also be used as a teaching tool, making frequent visits to schools, businesses, athletic events and other locations educating people about this new, innovative technology.
