ShopLocal Lands Canwest Newspapers

By: E&P Staff Canwest, publisher of the Ottawa Citzen, the Montreal Gazette and nine other dailies, will be the exclusive Canadian supplier of products and services of ShopLocal, the Chicago-based joint venture of Gannett Co., Tribune Co. and The McClatchy Co., the company announced Thursday.

Among the retailers that will be using ShopLocal's comparison shopping, digital coupons and other products will be Canadian Tire, Mark's Work Wearhouse and Toys R Us, Canwest said. Retailers can convert their local print promotions into digital formats that connect with consumers online and in-store, the chain said.

"Canwest can now offer Canadian advertisers this exceptionally effective tool to get local deals to local markets through multi-channel distribution," Derek Mah, general manager/ online classifieds and retail for Canwest Digital Media, said in the announcement. "And it's a great way for consumers to research and discover weekly and daily specials from the stores in their neighborhoods."

ShopLocal provides interactive, targeted and localized promotions through the Internet, mobile phones and other digital media. Its product line includes the SmartProduct solutions SmartCircular, SmartMedia, SmartDelivery and SmartCatalog.
