Sign of the Times: 'Sun-Sentinel' Managing Editor Retires -- Position Eliminated

By: Joe Strupp Sharon Rosenhause, managing editor of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale is retiring -- and the paper is eliminating her position in order to save money.

In a staff memo, first posted on the Poynter.org Romenesko site, Editor Earl Maucker revealed the news.

"It is with considerable sadness that I am announcing today that Sharon Rosenhause has decided to retire effective July 31," the memo stated, later adding, "Due to the current economic challenges facing us, I am eliminating the position of managing editor. The senior editors and I will share Sharon's duties and responsibilities going forward. Effective July 31, Tim Frank, Willie Fernandez, Pat Thompson and Philip Ward will report directly to me. Kathy Pellegrino also will report directly to me. Karen Osborne will report to Kathy. Sports Editor Kathy Laughlin will report to Philip."
