By: E&P Staff Mark Silverman has been named editor and vp/content and audience development at Gannett's The Tennessean in Nashville. The former editor and publisher of the Detroit News is currently editor of Gannett News Service.
He replaces Everett "E.J." Mitchell who will move on to become executive editor of the Courier-Post at Cherry Hill, N.J.
"We're fortunate to have someone with Mark's experience and track record to continue to lead the strong tradition of journalistic excellence at The Tennessean," said Ellen Leifeld, president and publisher of The Tennessean, in a statement.
Mitchell will "lead a fine newspaper in a very competitive market," Leifeld said. "Under his leadership in Nashville the newsoom has provoked closer scrutiny of public policy. He has an opportunity to do the same in New Jersey in a very competitive newspaper environment."
