By: E&P Staff MediaNews Group announced on Friday that William Dean Singleton will become the CEO of ANG Newspapers as the company prepares to fold its latest acquisitions -- the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, and The Monterey County Herald -- into its California Newspaper Partnership.

"As MediaNews adds to its California footprint, our focus will center on the task of consolidating these excellent newspapers to maximize both our print and online business," said Singleton in a statement. "The newspaper industry is undergoing a monumental sea change, and we hope to make the Bay Area a model for what our industry's future will be."

Singleton is also chairman of ANG, a title he has held for 21 years. He is vice chairman and CEO of MediaNews.

Singleton replaces Fred Mott, 58, publisher and CEO of ANG. Mott is leaving the company.
