Smith Named California Newspaper Partnership VP

By: E&P Staff California Newspaper Partnership (CNP) has appointed Steven B. Smith to vice president of community newspapers for its Northern California region. Smith, 52, was most recently vice president of sales and marketing for Media General, North Carolina Media Group.

"During his career, [Smith] has held several community newspaper publisher positions himself," George Riggs, president and CEO of CNP, said in a statement. "And for the last nine years, he has been responsible for groups of publications, with a clear track record of growing and improving them."

Smith also served as vice president, division manager for Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. in the Georgia/East region. Before that, he worked for Thomson Newspapers eventually rising to president and CEO of Thomson Newspapers (West Virginia/Virginia region).

MediaNews Group, Gannett, and Stephens Media jointly own CNP.
