This New Year's Eve, there is a new 24-hour countdown.

Snapchat - the app with ephemeral messages that is popular with people younger than 25 but relatively obscure to the over-45 set - is planning to document the final moments of 2014 and the ushering-in of 2015 with a very public global presentation.
