Snoopy Heads to Burning Man Festival

Posted
By: E&P Staff This week, thousands of people will head to Nevada's Black Rock Desert for the annual Burning Man Festival -- and a certain beagle will be among them.

Snoopy will be making an appearance at this year's festival, which is described on its Web site as "an annual art event and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance."

The "Peanuts" star will appear as a cardboard cutout on the front of a boat-shaped car that is being taken to the festival by Jeannie Schulz, widow of Snoopy's creator, Charles Schulz. The name of the vehicle? The H.M.S. Beagle.

"I loved Burning Man last year. I took up 'Peanuts' books to share, and volunteered in the coffee shop," Jeannie Schulz told Dan Taylor of The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa, Calif. "This year, I can be a taxi. I think the H.M.S. Beagle will be a popular form of transportation."
