By: Joe Strupp The Southern Newspaper Publishers Association has expanded its rules for membership to allow members who are not paid-circulation, daily newspapers, the organization revealed.
"During the closing general session of the 105th SNPA Annual Convention, the membership voted to strike restrictive language from the association bylaws and instead empower the SNPA Board of Directors to set membership criteria," an announcement on its Web site said. "Prior to today?s vote, membership was limited to paid-circulation, daily newspapers published at least five days a week."
The announcement added that, "the bylaws change approved this afternoon will open membership in SNPA to a wider variety of news publications. Companies and individuals who provide goods and services to these publications may join SNPA as associate members. Other classes of membership also may be established by the Board of Directors."
Newly-elected SNPA President Donna Barrett, president and CEO of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., said in a statement that the change will help SNPA in its ?continual evolution through a rapidly changing media landscape.?
?As the media landscape continues to change, it is important that SNPA takes proactive steps to remain at the forefront of serving news publications in the South,? Barrett added.
