'Solomon Star' to Print on Goss Community

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Solomon Star in the Solomon Islands is readying its new Goss Community press.

In summer, the Star sent two pressmen to New Zealand to train in operation of the press at its supplier, Webco Ltd., and on a similar press at the Bay of Plenty Times, according to the Star.

It is the South Pacific country's first web press, according to Group Operations Manager Peter Lomas. The paper is the first Solomons daily, having begun in 1982 as a weekly. The six-day paper carries full color in every edition, but has been printed on a sheetfed press.

Installed in a new facility in Lungga, the new press is expected to support increased circulation in the capital, Honiara, and elsewhere on the islands, more color for advertisers and more commercial printing.
