For nearly two decades, a community group on Chicago’s Northwest Side has been recruiting parents to spend more time in their children’s schools. Since its formation in 1995, about 1,800 parents have spent two hours a day during the academic week in their kids’ school for a semester or more through the Logan Square Neighborhood Association’s mentorship program.
