By: E&P Staff Space is still available for the Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library's 2007 Festival of Cartoon Art, which now has a slightly different speaker roster.
Jules Feiffer will be among three speakers who had to cancel their appearances at the Oct. 25-27 event, but three other speakers have signed on. One of them is Arnold Roth, who has done freelance cartoons for The New York Times and many other publications.
Previously announced speakers include -- among others -- Houston Chronicle/Washington Post Writers Group editorial cartoonist Nick Anderson (current president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists), self-syndicated "Dykes to Watch Out For" cartoonist Alison Bechdel, and "Curtis" cartoonist Ray Billingsley of King Features Syndicate.
Also: Fantagraphics Books co-founder/Comics Journal editor-in-chief Gary Groth, cartooning writer/Milton Caniff biographer R.C. Harvey, Dayton Daily News editorial cartoonist/"Mother Goose & Grimm" comic creator Mike Peters of King, Universal Press Syndicate editorial cartoonist/United Media executive Ted Rall, cartoon historian/"Hi and Lois" writer Brian Walker of King, and "Beetle Bailey" creator/National Cartoon Museum founder Mort Walker of King.
The ninth triennial festival will focus on graphic storytelling, including the work of "Terry and the Pirates"/"Steve Canyon" creator Milton Caniff (1907-88). The festival is taking place in the centennial year of Caniff's birth, and 30 years after Caniff's art and papers formed the founding collection of the Cartoon Research Library.
