By: E&P Staff Southwest Offset Printing, Gardena, Calif., ordered its third Muller Martini SLS3000 inserter to meet the demand of its additional contract newspaper work. Last month, the Los Angeles Newspaper Group announced that its will outsource printing of its Los Angeles Daily News and Long Beach Press-Telegram to SOP in late May.
The privately owned full-service printer also has contracts with The New York Times, Financial Times, Christian Science Monitor, Daily Racing Form and Hollywood Reporter.
Already operating 14:2 and 10:2 SLS3000s since 2004, SOP bought a 30:2 machine. In addition to SOP's experience with the SLS3000, Packaging Manager Jose Martinez attributed selection of the 32,000-cycle-per-hour linear inserter to Muller Martini training and support.
The SLS3000 offers scalable settings, simple operation, on-the-fly adjustment and handling of products ranging from a few light sheets to big, bulky editions, according to the manufacturer, headquartered in Zofingen, Switzerland, with offices in Hauppauge, N.Y.
