South Bend Selects Quipp Systems

Posted
By: E&P Staff Quipp Systems has contracted with The South Bend (Ind.) Tribune to supply a new bundle-packaging system for the paper's mailroom expansion and renovation.

The sale included five Quipp Packman packaging systems, three Model 500C stackers, and a manually operated bundle distribution system consisting of five tie lines and more than 15 mattetop, rollerslat, and spiral conveyors.

Each Packman system will be fed either press or inserted products. The 500C stackers will be used primarily to stack down pre-run press products and build bundles for the existing NP630 inserter.

A new inserter capable of running large packages at higher speeds also will be installed in the Tribune mailroom. Quipp Installations will begin in the first quarter of 2006.

For its Model 30X Stacker, produced until the early 1990s, Quipp is offering replacement parts or kits "for any component that is no longer available from the manufacturer." Most of the more than 500 30X stackers it shipped are still in production and face the challenge of parts obsolescence, especially the electronics, according to Quipp. Offers include CPU, touchscreens, stepper drive, power supply, and indexer. Functioning old boards may be traded in.

Separately, the Miami-based company said it hired Terry Mason as its western sales manager, reporting to Sales and Marketing Vice President Angel Arrabal. With more than 15 years of newspaper mailroom experience and 10 years in sales, Mason is responsible for all western states (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.
