By: A Sioux Falls, S.D. newspaper has accelerated its request for a full list of state employees' salaries.
The Argus Leader has been seeking those salary figures for several months.
State officials say the information is public, and they will release the wages of employees if provided with their names.
But they say developing a comprehensive list of all the names and salaries would be a Herculean task.
The Argus Leader has now raised the stakes in its quest for government openness by sending the state its own list of state employees from the employee phone directory all 235 pages of it containing thousands of names.
