By: E&P Staff Looking for efficiency and additional time slots on press for new business, Bridge City Publishing, Inc., publisher of the Mobridge (S.D.) Tribune, has converted from film imagesetting to computer-to-plate output using a Kodak Trendsetter News thermal platesetter and Kodak PF-N non-process plates.
After evaluating CTP systems from five vendors, Bridge City President Larry Atkinson cited Kodak for cost, features and "chemistry-free platemaking," The non-process plates also save time related to processing chemicals, and less equipment meant more free floorspace.
Bridge City's full solution from Kodak includes the Prinergy Evo workflow, with advanced preflighting and Kodak Staccato screening, and Kodak ink optimizing service. The selection was made late last November, and the system was installed by year's end.
Bridge City Publishing is a member of the PAGE Cooperative, whose members Atkinson consulted on CTP. In addition to printing 12 weeklies for North and South Dakota, Bridge City houses a promotional products sales agency.
Trendsetter News comes in three speeds, ranging from 80 to more than 150 plates per hour, and in models with manual plate loading and unloading, manual loading and automatic unloading, or automatic loading and unloading.
