By: Subscribers to the Americus Times Recorder soon will have to check their mailboxes to get the latest news.
Plagued by rising fuel costs, the south Georgia newspaper is halting its home delivery service. Instead, the newspaper's 5,400 subscribers will get their daily papers in the mail.
Publisher Dan Sutton said that means waiting until the afternoon to get the newspaper rather than having it on the doorstep first thing in the morning.
He said Sunday newspaper will still be delivered the traditional way. The nearby Cordele Dispatch began delivering the news by mail earlier this month.
The Americus and Cordele newspapers are owned by the Birmingham, Ala.-based Community Newspaper Holdings Group Inc.
