For the third consecutive year,
The Villages (Fla.)
Daily Sun won the Best In Show Award in the color category and this year also won Best In Show in the black-and-white category of the Southern Lithoplate/Inland Press Association Print Quality Competition.
Judges remarked they had a hard time picking winners in several circulation categories because the entries--up 25 percent over last year's competition--reflected a commitment to maintain a high level of production quality for what continues to be the industry's core product, its printed newspaper. Entries were judged by Dennis Cheeseman, director of research and development for US Ink, and Frank Burkiewicz, consumables application specialist for Des Plaines, Ill.-based Mark Andy Print Products.
Entries were evaluated in four circulation categories on how close the came to reproducing proofs of a color image and/or a black-and-white image. The photo had to be published in the regular run of the newspaper.
