David Mullings has sold the assets of Ouray County Newspapers to Alan Todd and Beecher Threatt. The sale includes a web site and two newspapers in Ouray County, Colo.: The Ouray County Plaindealer and The Ridgway Sun.
Both are paid weeklies, with a combined circulation of approximately 3,000.
Mullings bought the papers in 1995 from Guy and Marcia Wood. They are the only paid circulation weeklies in the two incorporated communities in Ouray County, with the Sun appearing on Wednesdays and the Plaindealer on Fridays.
Steve Klinger of W. B. Grimes and Company represented the seller and Ben Mahrle of Mountain States Business Brokers represented the buyers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Todd and Threatt, who are married, will operate the newspapers under 550 Publishing, Inc.
Todd, was most recently publisher for the Hill Country News in Cedar Park, Texas. Prior to that, he held numerous advertising and marketing positions at daily papers including the Longview (Texas) News-Journal in Longview, Texas, The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, Colo. and the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman.
