Spanish Multimedia Vendors in Legal Battle

By: Claiming "possible" infringement of its intellectual property rights, Seinet Group S.L. has filed suit against Quasar Technologies S.L., formed last spring by former Seinet workers. Both parties are cross-media publishing systems vendors based in Spain.

Saying it went to court in Madrid over similarities between its own and Quasar's system, introduced at the Ifra Expo in October, Seinet added: "the extremely short period of time between the departure of these employees from Seinet and the appearance of [Quasar's] product ... is another of the reasons ... for filing the lawsuit."

"We question how a new company could develop an entire system in just a few months," Seinet Director Ignacio Meg?as told E&P last fall. At the time, Quasar dismissed the threat of legal action, citing differences in the two companies' systems. Among five former Seinet staffers employed by Quasar is its co-founder and chief executive, Marc Marin, earlier with Atex for 11 years.
