By: The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg has promoted two executives.
The newspaper reported Friday that Mike Smith has been named executive editor, and Ken Smith is the new director of operations and distribution.
Mike Smith will oversee daily operations of the newspaper and its Web site. He had been the paper's editorial page editor since 1995. He first came to Spartanburg in 1983 and has worked as Cherokee County bureau chief, political writer, assistant city editor and computer resources editor.
He takes over for Carl Beck, who retired at the end of 2008.
Ken Smith had been circulation director since joining the Herald-Journal in 1985.
Publisher Roger Quinn says both men were easy choices because of the valuable work they have done for the newspaper.
