By: E & P Staff Appearances by TV newsmen Walter Cronkite, Bill Moyers and Brian Williams highlight the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) national convention starting in New York City on Thursday, but print reporters and editors dominate many of the panels at the three-day gathering.
The SPJ meeting, at the Grand Hyatt near Grand Central Station, opens early Thursday afternoon, with panels on convergence and war reporting and an evening reception on board the USS Intrepid. Cronkite and Williams share the keynote address on Friday morning, with Moyers giving the Saturday keynote.
Other panelists scheduled include Tom Curley, David Brooks, Jay Rosen, Jill Abramson, Helen Thomas (on "The News Conference"), Brian Gallagher, Jack Shafer, Nat Hentoff, and E & P Editor Greg Mitchell, among many others.
Friday's sessions will include "The FOI Audit: A Do-It-Yourself Workshop." Clarence Page will speak at the Saturday night dinner.
