The Sporting News of St. Louis and Cold North Wind Inc. of Ottawa, Ontario.
The 117-year archive of
Sporting News will be digitized by Cold North Wind and made available on that company's
PaperofRecord.com, which currently includes historical newspaper content from Canada and some other countries.
The Sporting News started in 1886 as a tabloid newspaper and later focused mostly on baseball. In 1942, the publication added football, basketball, and hockey coverage. Times-Mirror Inc. bought
The Sporting News from the Spink family in 1977, and the weekly become a four-color magazine in December 1997. The magazine was sold to Vulcan Sports Media Inc. in 2000.
