By: George Kiseda -- a sports journalist dubbed the "Silver Quill" in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in the 1950s and 1960s -- has died. He was 80.
Kiseda's brother Jim says Kiseda died early yesterday at an Alzheimer's care facility in Orange County of a form of dementia called Lewy body disease.
Kiseda had been at the San Juan Capistrano facility since November.
Kiseda was a cult figure to many journalists in part because he crusaded about civil rights issues in sports in the 1950s.
He wrote for the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph, Philadelphia Daily News and Philadelphia Bulletin in the 1950s and '60s before finishing his career in 1984 as a sports copy editor at the LA Times.
Kiseda is survived by his brother, niece Susan Kiseda of Redondo Beach, and nephew James of Hopewell Junction, New York.
