By: Gannett's Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader, has upgraded its digital workflow management solution to the browser-based NewsWay from ProImage America, Princeton, N.J.
The choice was based on ease of integration, functionality, reliability, and the company's reputation for support, according to Production and IT Director Tom Tate, who also noted the supplier's work for other Gannett oeprations.
"Expanding print publications combined with an ability to print up to 80 consecutive full color broadsheet pages requires fast and accurate file processing," Tate said in a statement. "NewsWay consistently provides that, and is the critical link in our production workflow."
NewsWay provides integration from planning, prepress and proofing through to CTP and press controls, for tracking and digital workflow management.
For the News-Leader, NewsWay also provides softViewing, page and plate approvals, furniture and text burning, deadline monitoring and priority scheduling. Its annotation, conference, and automated event notification features enhance communication between departments.
Using NewsWay's ad stitching feature, "ad and editorial content can be submitted separately and positioned automatically using coordinates provided by our Managing Editor ALS edition planning software," Prepress Manager Erik Jackson said. He added that proofing costs are reduced because jobs can be viewed electronically as re-combined TIFFs after ink optimization and after the RIPs.
Other News-Leader systems integrated with NewsWay are QPS editorial pagination, Mindset LivePagination for classified, GMG Ink Optimizer, Agfa's Producer OPI, OneVision Asura for preflighting and PDF correction, and Western Lithotech's DiamondSetter 610S2P platesetter.
