'St. Augustine (Fla.) Record' Appoints New Publisher

By: E&P Staff Derek J. May has been named publisher of The St. Augustine (Fla.) Record, effective Jan. 1. He currently serves as director of sales and marketing for the Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald.

Both the Record and the Banner-Herald are owned by Morris Publishing Group, LLC in Augusta, Ga.

May started with Morris Communications Co., Morris Publishing Group's parent company, in 1988 as a software development intern and later served as a computer programmer and implementation specialist before he was promoted to advertising systems product manager in 1997.

In 2001, he moved to the newspaper division of the company where he served as retail advertising team manager, circulation district manager, and single-copy manager at The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle. He has since held production and newsroom positions at the Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal prior to his promotion to director of sales and marketing for the Banner-Herald.

May replaces Ronnie Hughes, who is retiring.
