Barry Bradley, a writer and editor for the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times who wrote a series of articles in the paper detailing his battle against lung cancer, succumbed to the disease on Sunday. Bradley was 57.
The articles Bradley wrote about his lung cancer diagnosis and treatment, published under the title, ""A Killer Within,'' appeared in the Times in December 2004. Bradley received thousands of responses for the seven-part series he dedicated to cancer patients.
Bradley, a longtime smoker, published his last article on Feb. 5,.
Bradley started on the Times staff as a copy editor in 1979, after serving in the Navy and graduating from the University of Central Florida with a degree in journalism in 1977.
In addition to ""A Killer Within,"" Bradley also contributed groundbreaking work to the Times in other areas, working on storm coverage as a weather reporter and uncovering government scandal during his investigative work on construction of the Sunshine Skyway in 1985.
Bradley is survived by his wife, Jean, of St. Petersburg; and his mother, Thalia Bradley; his brother, John Bradley; and sister, Traci Gouveia, all of Orlando.
