Newark, N.J.-- Star-Ledger executive Robert Gray has announced he will retire on March 1, ending his 44-year newspaper career. His career has spanned three states, four owners and at least eight media properties; he has served as account executive, major accounts manager, vice president advertising, general manager and group publisher.
In his most recent positions at Advance Publications, Gray served as advertising director at the Star-Ledger from 2006-2010 and as executive vice president of advertising for Advance New Jersey newspapers. He was known for his creativity, energy, and adaptability during tough economic times for the media industry.
Among his many achievements were the top to bottom introduction of sales technology tools and innovative sales initiatives at the Star-Ledger; and the development of synergy sales and savings among the 17 Advance New Jersey newspaper properties.
Gray and his wife plan to return to their California home to be closer to family.
