By: (AP) Hundley, Hartman to Be Inducted Into Hall (AP) Former NBA star turned broadcaster Rod Hundley and Minneapolis
Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman were selected Monday for the Basketball Hall of Fame's media awards.
The awards, named for broadcaster Curt Gowdy, will be presented at the Hall of Fame's enshrinement Sept. 5. Gowdy was president of the Hall of Fame for seven years.
"Hot Rod" Hundley starred at West Virginia and then with the Lakers, in Minneapolis and later in Los Angeles.
He turned to broadcasting after he retired in 1962. He recently completed his 29th season doing play-by-play for the Utah Jazz on radio and TV.
Hartman, 83, started as an intern for the
Minneapolis Times in 1944 and was writing a column three years later. When the
Times stopped publishing in 1948, he began writing for the
Minneapolis Tribune. At one point he was sports editor and writing six columns a week.
He still writes four columns a week and hosts a Sunday radio show that he began in 1955.
Robert Parish and James Worthy are being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year along with Meadowlark Lemon of the Harlem Globetrotters, black pioneer Earl Lloyd, longtime Louisiana Tech women's coach Leon Barmore, Italian star Dino Meneghin, and late Lakers' announcer Chick Hearn.
