By: E&P Staff Ramping up a long-term strategy of targeting content to specific suburbs, the Star Tribune next month will launch a weekly news section called Star Tribune West that will cover the suburbs west of its Minneapolis headquarters.
Star Tribune West will launch May 26 as the metro daily's second targeted suburban weekly section, Publisher and President J. Keith Moyer said in an announcement. The model for the section is Star Tribune South, created last October for the fast growing 'burbs south of the Minnesota River. Like that section, Tribune West will have its own reporting, photography and editing staff to focus on what the Star Tribune calls "news that matters most to readers," about schools, civic life, recreation, entertainment and personalities.
The new section will reach readers in St. Louis Park, Minnetonka, Hopkins, south Plymouth, Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Wayzata and rural western Hennepin County.
The attention to individual suburbs is part of The McClatchy Co. newspaper's strategic intitiative, Moyer said: "As the market's undisputed leading source for news and information, it makes sense that the Star Tribune establish an even greater presence in the outlying areas where we're seeing much of our
market growth."
