Minneapolis-St. Paul - Steve Yaeger, an accomplished Twin Cities marketing executive, has been named director of marketing of the Star Tribune, effective May 3, 2011.

For the last seven years, Yaeger has been a principal at the marketing agency Aspyrion, working with a diverse roster of clients including Microsoft, FICO, Cargill, Autodesk and many others. Prior to Aspyrion, he directed marketing for software maker Adaytum, where he helped triple revenues over a three-year period, culminating in a successful sale of the company to Cognos. At Cognos he served on the integration team and assumed a leadership role in the Canadian company's new U.S. office.

Before that, Yaeger held a variety of marketing and public relations roles at The Thomson Corporation (now Thomson Reuters). He has been based in the Twin Cities his entire career and is a magna cum laude graduate of St. Olaf College.

Yaeger will report to Star Tribune Chief Revenue Officer Jeff Griffing, spearheading a variety of marketing functions, and he will also work directly with Star Tribune Publisher and CEO Mike Klingensmith in shaping the company's overall brand positioning and communications.

"Steve is a seasoned, results-oriented marketing professional with deep expertise in building brands and helping drive profitable growth," Griffing said. "He has an outstanding history of delivering quantifiable successes through collaboration with product groups and sales organizations. Plus, he has an impressive creative portfolio and an extensive vendor network."
