By: Thomas Kelsch, the first civilian publisher of the Stars and Stripes military newspaper, announced he will retire next summer.
Kelsch was named publisher in 1999. A publisher's group established this year to analyze the paper's inner workings will serve as a search committee to select his successor, the newspaper said Monday.
?Tom has been an effective and committed leader of Stars and Stripes,? said Allison Barber, a deputy assistant secretary of defense responsible for internal communications, including Stars and Stripes.
Stars and Stripes is a Pentagon-authorized daily newspaper published overseas for the U.S. military community.
