Scott Bowers, president and publisher of The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill., has announced he is stepping down effective today.
"I have decided to spend more time with my family and to pursue personal interests," Bowers said in a statement. "I want to thank GateHouse Media Inc. for giving me the opportunity. They have been very supportive in my role and during this decision."
Bowers joined the State Journal-Register in December 2007, and was later appointed president and publisher of the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star. Both papers are GateHouse Media Inc. properties.
In a story published on pjstar.com, Bowers described the job as “a great challenge and one that I met head-on. I learned a great deal about myself, time management and my abilities. Now, I look forward to new challenges and opportunities.”
A search is under way for a successor.
