'Staten Island Advance' Gets New Food Editor

By: E&P Staff Pamela Silvestri has been promoted to food editor of the Staten Island Advance. Previously, she served the Advance as a restaurant critic and writer for its weekly "AWE" entertainment section.

Silvestri joined the Advance in 2004, initially writing columns on Staten Island's diverse ethnic communities and their food traditions. She succeeds Jane Milza, who served as food editor since 1976 and had been an Advance employee since 1954. Milza retired in January.

A Staten Island native, Silvestri opened the American Grill restaurant in 2000. The Michelin and Zagat-rated restaurant moved to a different location in 2005 before she sold the business the following year.

In addition to her duties as food editor, Silvestri maintains a dining and food blog, Turning Tables, on Silive.com, the Advance's Web site.
