Stephen Colbert Cites 'E&P' To Prove He Was A Viable Candidate -- But Dems Give Him the Boot

By: E&P Staff On his Comedy Central show Thursday night, Stephen Colbert was reduced to citing a recent article in E&P to prove that he was, indeed, not merely a joke candidate for president.

Thursday was the day the Democratic party in South Carolina would decide if Colbert, who announced his favorite son candidacy last month and filed to run in that state's primary, would qualify for the ballot. The party rules require that he be viewed as a "viable" candidate.

Colbert noted this at the opening of The Colbert Report, then to prove that he was indeed all of that, put up on the screen a graphic of a recent E&P article covering his surprisingly decent showing in a national poll. The audience yelled its approval of E&P as kingmaker.

However, in the second segment of the show, he revealed that the Democrats had foolishly denied him a place on the ballot.

Too bad, he said, showing a thick file of papers -- he had an exit strategy for Iraq all mapped out.
