'Stone Soup' is Hometown Winner in Comics Poll

By: E&P Staff "Stone Soup" by Jan Eliot of Universal Press Syndicate won a comics poll conducted by The Register-Guard of Eugene, Ore. -- where Eliot lives.

The next four finishers among the newspaper's 38 comics were "Zits" by Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman of King Features Syndicate, "For Better or for Worse" by Lynn Johnston of Universal, "Baby Blues" by Jerry Scott and Rick Kirkman of King, and "Blondie" by Dean Young and John Marshall of King.

In a story announcing the survey results, Register-Guard Features Editor Mark Johnson also reported that "Prickly City" by Scott Stantis of Universal is replacing "Mallard Fillmore" by Bruce Tinsley of King in the daily classifieds section. Both strips are conservative.

Additions to the Register-Guard's Sunday comics section include "Opus" by Berkeley Breathed of the Washington Post Writers Group, "Pickles" by Brian Crane of WPWG, and "Pluggers" by Gary Brookins of Tribune Media Services. The latter two were already in the newspaper's daily comics section. "Mark Trail" and "Franklin Fibbs" are being dropped from the Sunday section.
