Stuck in Lodi Again: Calif. Paper Agrees to Pay City $2 Million in Pollution Case

By: (AP) The Lodi (Calif.) News-Sentinel in has agreed to pay the city of Lodi two million dollars to settle a claim charging it with adding to the toxic chemicals that have fouled up the city's soil and groundwater.

Lodi sued the newspaper and 14 other local businesses in federal court in 2000, charging them with polluting the ground with the suspected carcinogen perchloroethylene by either dumping it onto the ground or down drains.

The city attorney said he was happy with the settlement, which will be paid by the newspaper and its insurance.
