By: E&P Staff The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times named John Suchecki as its chief technology officer as of Jan. 23, replacing Beth Sholar, who left the newspaper last month.

Suchecki, 41, most recently served as vice president and chief technology officer at the Hartford (Conn.) Courant, where he was responsible for the information technology staff and electronic publishing department.

A mechanical engineer with an MBA, Suchecki joined the Courant in 1998 after 12 years at the University of Connecticut Health Center, where he rose from programmer and analyst to deputy chief information officer.

Announcing the appointment, Times Publisher and former Courant executive Marty Petty said she knew of Suchecki's "strong track record in technology management" from working with him in Hartford. "His 18-plus years of experience includes many of the same technology projects we are now implementing and will enable him to hit the ground running," Petty said.
