By: E&P Staff The first Philadelphia Inquirer Sudoku National Championship is getting closer.

As E&P reported in May, the event will be held October 19-21 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The championship will be hosted by puzzle expert Will Shortz of The New York Times and New York Times Syndicate -- one of many syndicates that distribute "Sudoku" puzzles.

The Philadelphia competition is open to three levels of solvers -- beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Inquirer Publisher Brian Tierney said the paper has made a three-year commitment to the "Sudoku" event.
